Two years ago my mother’s seer handed me a piece of lined paper my grandmother had torn out of a notebook. It was off-white with faded blue lines, wide rule, for the ease of children learning how to write. He asked me to mark some dots on it. Anyway I wished. After looking at their arrangement for a few minutes he went into a trance. His nose twitched. I had a hard time believing in him, but my mother, and her mother, and her mother’s mother never had any doubts about him, or his father, or his father’s father.

He says I have a naga doshum, like nynamma. Unlike karma, which is the fruit of what your soul did in its previous life, a naga doshum is the result of prarabdha karma. Prarabdha karma is the fruit of your actions during this life. It is immediate retribution.
